While average blog readership is packed with the sort of hyper intelligent teenagers that have to be portrayed by year-olds in TV dramas, many of the world's teenagers are prone to doing stupid things for stupid reasons. New research explains why. Sarah-Jayne Blakemore and colleagues from the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University College London have determined through grown-up scientific research that the brains of teenagers and young adults have more in common with those of much younger children than those of mature adults.

I was one. I was stupid. Here are some of the problems with being a middle class teenager: You think things are important. You think you will remember how you feel forever. You think your love is more important than any other love in the universe. You think you are as emotionally capable as an adult, nay, even more capable. You have not yet realized you will have to get a job and later die, and that will be followed by what you would think of as an alarmingly small funeral. You think minute interactions with the opposite sex are scarier or at least more potentially life altering than chugging Jack Daniels in public parks while trying to roll a joint with wax paper. But there are some degrees of pathetic that should be documented for all time, even if I was a teenager.
What are you teenagers doing with your lives? Because based on all the stories that keep popping up about kids today, you're spending your lives doing really stupid stuff. Not to say that you're the only age group doing dumb crap, because adults are definitely always making bad decisions. The reason we're pointing out all the stupid things teenagers have been up to in is so they have a chance to see the error of their ways and change. Seriously, just look at what's been going on, complete with our own idiot rating system, from "kids will be kids" to "may god have mercy on your soul":. What Happened: Two girls just decide to fight, and it ends with someone getting a shovel thrown at them. Idiot rating: Why?! What Happened: High school students prank their own school by peeing all over the hallways. Then they got arrested.
